The Secret place

Psalm 91:1-2 (VW)

The state of the godly

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him will I trust.

When I think of a secret place or refuge and a place of safety, I think of a cosy, warm, comfortable and safe place where one can rest and recover. Let us explore these verses in the ancient Hebrew to understand what it really means.

He who dwells (yawshab)

Dwell is a pictograph of two front teeth and a tent which combined mean to ‘press to the tent’.

In the secret place (sêther sithrah)

In the ancient Hebrew the pictographs is of

Water: which can also point to chaos and blood

Thorn: thorn hedge that supports and protects

Cross: it is a mark of covenant

Nail: Tent peg, secure add

Head: Authority first.

In the secret place water, protection and a covenant is offered if you let yourself be secured to His tent and submit to His authority.

Of the Most high (Elyon)

The pictograph is of a staff and an eye which means: shepherd, staff, teach, to or from and knowledge or experience.

Combined it means to experience the staff.

If you choose to dwell in His secret place, it means you accept His discipline and leading and protection as a shepherd.

Shall abide = loon

To remain and stay contuniually. The pictograph is of a shepherd staff, a nail and a seed which means to continue. In other words to continually (seed) be pinned (tent peg) to the shepherd (staff)

Under the shadow = tsêl

Pictograph is of a man on his side (hiding) and a shepherd staff. To hide from danger under the shepherd staff.

Of the almighty =Shadday

The pictograph is of two front teeth and a tent door. Combined it means 2 that dangles down or breasts.

It also means the most powerful, almighty ruler or King.

To summarize everything it would read something like this.

He who is pressed to the tent (dwells), in the secret place where water, protection and covenant is offered, (if you let yourself be secured to the authority of the Most High where you experience the staff), will continually be pinned to the shepherd and hide under His staff from danger.

If you don’t submit to His authority in this secret place the water can also mean blood and chaos and the thorns might hurt you if you constantly try to push His boundaries. The secret to dwell securely is to submit to His authority and to His leading as the Shepherd and the Supreme ruler.

May El Ruach (The Spirit of Elyon) give us the resolve to remain in His secret place and submit to His authority. In the process of us settling into the secret place, we then create a space of grace where people can come and rest, recover and find Him as their Shepherd.
